Don’t Miss a Hidden Treasure
by S.B. Sunshine
One of the joys of shopping is finding little hidden treasures in the most unusual places. Sometimes you can find the most unique items in places that you are not expecting to find them. Most of my best purchases have not come in beautiful, elegant packages. But in simple plain boxes with little or no words on the box. There have been a few times when I have fallen for the glitter and glamour and purchased an item because it looked really cool in the package. The bright colors and flashy graphics would capture most eyes. However, when I got the item home and opened it up, it was not what I expected. Years of shopping have taught me that it is often difficult to determine much about an item by just looking at it in its packaging. An item may look great in the package, but the real treasure is always hidden inside.
It is the same way with people. We cannot tell who a person is by just looking at their outer appearance. The color of their skin, the clothes that they wear, the way that they style their hair and even the car that they drive do not reveal who a person really is. Whenever we decide to interact or not to interact with a person based on their outer appearance, we run the risk of missing the opportunity to discover a hidden treasure. We must be careful not to allow ourselves to draw a conclusion or judge others by their outer appearance. We should always practice showing others respect. We must take the time to get to know people. Don’t judge; but train yourself to look for the treasure inside others.
God created all of us in His image. He created each of us according to his plan. We are all different and unique by design. Our differences are what make us valuable to the world, our community. Each of us has a purpose that God wants us to fulfil on this earth so that our lives can bring glory and honor to him.
So, the next time you meet someone, be kind, look beyond their outer appearance and look for the treasure that may be hidden inside.
