What is Love?

It is common to hear people use the word “love” in our daily lives. We often use love to describe how we feel about someone we really care about in a relationship. Sometimes we use love to describe feelings that we have about certain places, our pets, or things. But what does the word “love” really mean?

When we take the time and google love, we get several different definitions, types, and examples of love. There have been numerous songs and movies written about love. But the Bible provides the best definition of love. And scriptures all throughout the Bible instruct us on how to love others. My favorite definition of love in the Bible is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. These scriptures describe love like this:

Love is patient, Love is kind. Love does not envy; Love is not boastful; Love is not arrogant; Love is not rude; Love is not self-seeking; Love is not irritable; and Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. Love always looks for the best. Love keeps going to the end.

The Bible is clear on what love is and what love is not. We should strive to achieve and live by the Bible’s definition of love every day. Real love creates peace and harmony with others. Let’s choose to Surrender Our Hate. And let’s follow God’s example of love today and every day!
