How Can I Hear Him?
People often ask me “How can I hear God?” I usually give them a short but very honest answer,” You will be able to hear God when you focus on His presence.” Some say that this answer sounds too simple, and they still feel it is impossible to hear. But focus really is the key. We must train and discipline ourselves to hear. Distractions from other people, work, and our own personal agendas can make it difficult to hear. But when we settle down and allow ourselves to really focus, we become more aware of things that we never noticed before. Focus is powerful. It has been proven over and over that we are drawn to whatever we focus on.
Take a moment now to think about the last time you purchased a new car. I know without a doubt that you were excited about your new car, and you wanted to learn as much as you could about it. Isn’t it amazing how you suddenly started to notice all the other cars that were just like yours on the road? It seemed like your car was everywhere you went. Right? Well, the truth is that all those other cars were always there. You just became more aware of them when you made your new car your focus. When your new car became a part of your life, everything changed. The same is true with God. When we shift our focus to God, we become more in tune to Him. We are able to hear Him, and we become more aware of things that other people miss.
God is everywhere! And just like those other cars, He has always been right there with you. We just have to decide to make Him a priority in our lives. We must take the time to acknowledge His presence. The Bible says in John chapter 14 that before Jesus ascended into heaven, He left us with a special gift, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, through whom God acts, reveals His will, empowers individuals, and discloses his personal presence. The Holy Spirit waits eagerly for each of us to embrace His presence so that He can lead and guide us in every decision that we face. Prayer, fellowship, and daily Bible reading help us to be drawn closer to His presence.
The Bible is filled with so many other scriptures that confirm that God wants to speak to us. He designed us so that we are able to communicate with Him daily. The Bible says in John chapter 10 that God is a good shepherd, and His sheep know His voice. He will not lead them astray. Choose today to focus more on the things that will draw you closer to God. Invite God to be a part of your life. You will discover that He has been there with you all the time and there is so much that He wants to say specifically to you.
